Preparing your home for Photography

If you want the images of your home to have the greatest impact, a few simple preparation guidelines apply. Remember, first impressions count ─ which is why it is important that your property is presentable both inside and out.

BEFORE THE SHOOT

KITCHEN/LIVING AREAS

Eliminate clutter ─ remove unnecessary pieces of furniture, personal items, family photos, pet bowls/beds, and put away any 'knick-knacks' ie. remote controls, magazines, hobbyist collections, etc.

Clean all surfaces, floors, tiles, mirrors, windows, shutters, and remove and spider webs

🗹

Remove magnets and/or photos from the fridge

🗹

Replace any broken light globes or lamps

🗹

Hide any bins or waste baskets

🗹

Hide all visible electrical cables, cords, and chargers

BEDROOMS

De-clutter

🗹

Make beds

🗹

Ensure floors are clear and clean

🗹

Put away clothes and personal items

🗹

Clear bedside tables and vanity units

BATHROOMS

🗹

Clean bathrooms thoroughly ─ remove any soap and water stains, ensure shower screen and mirrors are spotless

🗹

Remove all bathroom clutter and personal items ie. toothbrushes, hair dryers, bath mats, etc.

Replace used towels with folded, fresh towels

🗹

Put toilet seats down

OUTSIDE

🗹

Mow lawns

🗹

Rake leaves

🗹

Sweep paved areas including driveway and porches 

🗹

Remove any oil stains from driveway

🗹

Weed garden and prune trees/shrubs

🗹

Remove/hide bins and gardening equipment

🗹

Clean windows and screens

🗹

Clean pool and remove pool cleaner/toys

🗹

Clean front door mat

DAY OF SHOOT

Open all curtains and blinds

🗹

Remove cars from driveway

🗹

Turn on all interior lights including lamps

🗹

Secure pets in another location

🗹

Straighten beds and furniture

🗹

Ensure all surfaces are clean and clear
